As your online accountant, it is imperative that we are able to speak to HMRC and Companies House on your behalf and have access to your online records and web-filing tax accounts where necessary. Your time is too precious to spend hours dealing with HMRC or Companies House, we are here to support you so we will spend the time waiting in call queues so that you don’t have to in order to free up your time and effort. For this to happen we must have your formal authorisation to act on your behalf which can be achieved by filling out HMRC’s 64-8 form found here.

This 64-8 Form authorises HMRC to communicate with us at MTD as your accountant and tax agent who is acting on your behalf. You will need to post this completed form to HMRC and may take them up to a weGek to receive and process this.

When registering for the various tax accounts (PAYE, VAT, Corporation Tax) on your Government Gateway account, you will receive a number of activation codes which we will look at below:

  • Companies House Web-Filing Code
This is a six-digit alphanumerical code when you register a Limited Company and is used to authorise your submissions filed online.
  • Self Assessment Authorisation Code
This will authorise us to act on your behalf and submit your self assessment to HMRC.
  • Corporation Tax Authorisation Code
With this we will be able to view your company’s online tax record for Corporation Tax and file Corporation Tax Returns.
  • VAT Authorisation Code
This will allow us to file your VAT returns and view your online company VAT record and filing history.
  • PAYE Authorisation Code
We can view your appropriate payroll online records and submit RTI information to HMRC.
